Being physically active not only contributes to looking better, but helps increase energy, improves mood and assists in managing the stresses and challenges of everyday living.

Many people find the hardest part of working out is getting started. Petra has provided some easy ways to get moving and add daily activity so you can take the steps towards a happier and healthier lifestyle. Be sure to check out Petra's Get Moving audio downloads for extra motivation!

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Staying hydrated is essential for good health and particularly important while you exercise. Many people think they need eight cups of water a day to prevent dehydration, however the amount required really depends on a variety of factors including the weather and intensity of the workout. A good rule of thumb is to drink water throughout the day and especially before, during and after your workouts. Waiting until you are thirsty to you take that first sip of water is actually too late!

Eating for Energy
Feeding your body quality fuel throughout the day is setting you up for workouts that deliver high results. Throwing a bag of walnuts in your gym or hiking bag is an easy and nutritious way for athletes of all calibers to obtain necessary energy, protein and essential fatty acids. “Every Journey Begins with a Single Step”
Often times, the first step can be the hardest. Get motivated and committed by exercising with a partner. Find a walking companion, join a sports league or register for a group exercise class to help you get moving.

Time is on Your Side
Many people cite a reason for not working out. Just ten minutes of cardio exercise three times a day can provide health benefits! To easily sneak some daily exercise in consider taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walk around the block during your lunch break or get off the bus a stop early and walk the rest of the way to your destination.

Do What You Love, Love What You Do
Participating in a variety of activities, helps keep things interesting and exciting. If you love to dance, sign up for some classes….if you love to swim, join a swim club… if you’re a team player, sign up for some group sporting activities.

Schedule, Commit and Don’t Cancel
Make exercise a priority. Write down workout times in your daily schedule and treat this time as an important meeting. Taking care of your health is one of THE best things you can do for you and your loved ones.

Rise and Shine
Working out first thing in the morning can help prevent the busy day getting in the way of exercise. Set the alarm clock 30 minutes earlier and just remember how great you will feel the rest of your day.

Make It a Family Affair
Exercise does not always have to happen on a treadmill or inside a gym, but can be a group outing. Get the family to join in and go for a bike ride or take the dog for a walk in the park. It’s a great way to spend quality time together while obtaining the benefits of being physically active.

Plan for Success
Keeping goals realistic and attainable will help set the stage for success. Make two sets of goals one shorter term and one longer term. Once a goal has been reached, be sure to make a new one!

Chart Your Progress
It is easy to forget where we started and just how far we have come along the path of leading a healthier lifestyle. One of the most proven ways of staying motivated and on track is to write down and chart progress.

Celebrate Your Success
Celebrate accomplishments and take time to acknowledge your hard work. A massage, a manicure and pedicure, a new workout CD are all great rewards for a job well done.

Petra has provided you with a cardio log to get you motivated and track your fitness progress.

Just remember just do the best you can, when you can!
