½ cup whole wheat flour
½ cup all purpose flour
2 Tbsp wheat germ
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
1/3 cup chopped dates
1/3 cup chopped California walnuts
½ cup buttermilk
½ cup canola oil
¼ cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
- Directions

- Heat oven to 400F.
- In mixing bowl, stir flours, wheat germ, baking powder and soda, cinnamon and nutmeg until blended.
- Stir in dates and walnuts.
- Measure buttermilk and oil in the same 2-cup, add sugar and egg; whisk until thoroughly blended.
- Pour liquid ingredients over dry.
- Stir, bake and cool.
