Spiced with a unique blend of chili powder and Chinese five spice powder, this recipe will introduce you to walnuts' devilish side.

2 cups California walnut halves and pieces
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp mild chili powder
1 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
- Directions

- Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan, add California walnut halves and pieces; simmer for 5 minutes. Drain, place walnuts on paper towels to dry.
- In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, chili powder and five-spice powder; mix well.
- Heat vegetable oil in a saucepan, add walnuts and fry until golden. Remove quickly, drain well; add to bowl with spices and toss to coat.
- Wipe out saucepan and return walnuts to dry off.
- Serve as a snack. Makes 2 cups.
