A deliciously moist and flavorful loaf with few ingredients and can be eaten warm or room temperature. Always a hit, especially during the holiday season when there is so much going on in the kitchen. You can prepare it the night before and serve it the next day while you're busy doing other things.

- Ingredients

solid shortening to grease the pan
2 1/2 c all purpose flour, plus additional to prepare pan
1 c sugar
3 tsdp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c milk
1 egg, well beaten
3/4 tsp. maple flavoring
1 c coarsely chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 350.
Grease and flour a 9x5x3 loaf pan with the shortening and 1 tbs. flour.
Tap out excess flour. Measure flour and blend in dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add milk, egg and flavoring. Stir until moistened and well blended. Stir in nuts then pour into prepared pan.
Bake 50 minutes to 1 hr, testing after 50 minutes (or until tests clean).
Cool 10 minutes and turn out onto a cooling rack.
Serve warm or room temperature
