The classic candy, Turtles, combines caramel, chocolate and walnuts. The addition of sea salt adds a savory finish to the cookie and the walnuts add a delicious crunch and the flavor that we love!

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 cups plain flour
½ cup cocoa
36 soft caramels (unwrapped)
180 California walnut halves (about 1 1/2 pounds)
1/3 cup sea salt
- Directions

In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Slowly add flour and cocoa, mixing well. Form chocolate dough into 36 equal balls. Create thumbprint well in each cookie. Place a caramel in each well. Add five walnut halves to cookie to form the head and legs of turtle. Place on parchment lined cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees F. for 12-15 minutes (top will crack like a turtle’s shell). Remove from oven and cool slightly then sprinkle with sea salt. Allow to cool completely. Store in a cool place.
