No other nut may be used. Walnut oil may be used in recipes, but recipes containing walnut oil must also contain walnuts (e.g. walnut halves, chopped walnuts, etc.).

Recipes must contain at least one ounce of walnuts per serving, for example a recipe serving 4 people must contain at least 1/2 cup walnuts.

Recipe Submissions

Recipes can only be submitted by registered contestants on www.walnuts.org.  Contestants can enter one recipe per category.

Recipes must require oven baking, and each must be submitted into one of the following categories:

  1. Cookies, Brownies and Blondies

  2. Cakes and Pies

  3. Breads

  4. Breakfast / Brunch Baked Items

Contestants must check the “SMART Recipe” box if they would like to be considered for this prize, which is awarded under different criteria than the general recipe categories. Contestants who choose to submit a video will automatically be considered in the Best Video Submission category.

A single recipe may only be submitted in one category per contestant, but contestants may submit recipes in all four categories. Additionally, contestants will have the option to submit an accompanying video submission. Submitting a demonstration video is not required and will not affect final judging of the accompanying recipe.

When submitting recipes, contestants must attest to the fact that, to the best of their knowledge, their recipe submissions are original creations and not the copyrighted property of another individual, corporation or other legal entity.

Once submitted online, all recipes, photos and videos become the property of the California Walnut Board. Entry constitutes permission to edit, modify, adapt, publish and otherwise use the recipe in any way without compensation.

By entering this contest, entrants grant consent to use winners' name and likeness for editorial, advertising and publicity purposes, without further compensation (except where prohibited).

All Contest rules are subject to change by the California Walnut Board without notice.

Once an entry is submitted, the recipe will be available for review and rated by other participants. However, these ratings will not affect the final judging for Grand Prize or Randomly Selected Winner consideration.
